It’s Christmas time once again, and the world will be celebrating this season no matter what our belief is. We all have wishes for Christmas. Employees, who are working hard with their employers, also have wishes they want to come true this Christmas. If you’re a business owner or an employer who wants to make your workers happy, motivated and more productive, you may want to make their wishes come true. The following are 10 things that I guess your employees want this Christmas.

1. Cash gift

Whether we deny it or not, we want money. Cash is the most liquid gift we can have since we can use it to buy any item that we need within its value or amount. Employees work hard to earn money for family and personal finance. Since cash is liquid and transferable, your employees can use it, not only for themselves, but also for their family… unlike a gift in kind.

2. Thank you

Employees want some recognition for spending precious time of their life and for working hard to make your business alive and successful. They are expecting even just a simple “thank you” as long as it is sincere and from the bottom of your heart.

3. Apology

Employees want an employer or a manager who is humble and accountable. This Christmas, they are waiting for their boss to admit his or her mistakes, instead of passing the blame to them.

4. Empowerment

Employees want training to grow more personally and professionally. And when they are trained, prepared, and equipped with the right skills, they want to be empowered and trusted to work independently or to work with less supervision or intervention from their boss or manager.

5. Promotion

Every employee wants to be promoted to the top, unless promotion will send them to a location they don’t want. Promotion is a concrete form of recognition, recognizing an employee’s performance, achievements and potentials. So who doesn’t want a promotion again?

6. Salary increase

Yes, you’ve read it right. A promotion won’t be economically right if there is no favorable wage increase. Salary increase is also important when all prices of commodities are already rising.

7. Vacation

Time is gold, and time with family and loved ones is even more precious than gold. That is why this Christmas, employees are eager to receive, not only cash gift, but also a gift of time or longer vacation leave that they can use to spend with their loved ones this Holiday season.

8. Comfortable and secure workplace

Workers want to be more productive, but if their workplace is inconvenient for work (i.e., having a hot and noisy environment, damaged office furniture and slow or obsolete equipment), they can be disappointed. So who wants to work with a comfortable office chair or to work with a fast computer? Your employees of course.

9. Respect

You can pay your employees with extra money, you can pay them with extra time, and you can also pay them respect. Everyone deserves due respect. So expect that your employees want it from you, not only this Christmas, but all year round.
