Being a traditional employee cannot make you rich (of course unless you become one of the top executives of a multi-national company). Whether you are a government or a private company worker, receiving a fixed amount of salary per month may only be enough to accommodate you and your family’s needs.
Sometimes, you would even have to depend on loans just to pay for emergencies and unplanned expenses. However, that does not guarantee that you will already have free money to spend on wants. Well, no matter how big your income is if it is only enough to sustain your needs, then you cannot be considered wealthy yet. One more thing, unless you get promoted or your company decides so, your income will remain static. This is the reason why many turn to the business world.
Why Business
In the Philippines, most of the well-off people are those who have businesses. Instead of being controlled by people in authority, they are the bosses of their own companies and they are the ones who pay employees. Another advantage that business people have over ordinary employees is that they can control their time. They do not have to fear getting salary deduction for being late or absent at work.
For people who want freedom from financial and time limitation, they desire to establish their business. Actually, many Filipinos dream of owning a business. The problem is most of these dreams never become a reality. If only these dreamers know how to live their dreams, then there would be a smaller percentage of poverty in the Philippines by now.
Tips of turning a dream business into a reality
It is not impossible to make a dream business come true. People just need to learn how to work it out. For dreamers who are determined to set their business up, here are three basic but practical tips:
1. Study the business
Wanting a business is different from deciding to have it. The people who are really decided to get into it do not just admire the kind of business and the possible income it can make. Instead, they make themselves familiar with the nature of the business. They seriously learn about its structure and processes. Of course, the more they know about the industry, the more they will be ready for it.
There are many ways to know about a business, but there are two practical steps that can really help. First is by enrolling in a formal training that offers all the knowledge about the enterprise. Next, people can be familiar with a business by being exposed to the industry. The best way to do this is by working in that business first. This way, the person can observe how it is done.
2. Save up for the capital
No matter how eager a person is to set up a business, if there is no capital, then it can never be a done. Any business needs a starting fund. Of course, materials, equipment, and other resources must be provided; there will be people to pay for their labor; and there is a need to find the right area for an office or establishment. For the first months, there will be no income yet, so any aspiring businessman should be financially prepared before stepping into the venture. Therefore, the person has to know how much capital will be needed beforehand, and for a specific duration of time, the amount should be generated.
3. Plan ahead
Setting up a business is not easy, and it is a serious thing. The bigger the business is the more time is needed to prepare for it. For this reason, people need to set goals for their dream business beforehand. They should lay down the plan or blueprint for it. The plan must include the proposed capital amount, when the business will be started, who will be the target market, the location of the establishment, and the people to hire. Of course, it should follow the S.M.A.R.T. rule. It has to be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time bound.
Make it happen
If other people able to set up their own business, then you can too. You do not have to be rich to be able to make your dream business a reality. All you need is the determination to do it, and the right mindset to get it started.
