Focus, focus, focus, how many times you tell this word to yourself whenever you want to achieve or accomplish something in your life? Whether that goal of yours is short-term or long-term, you need to concentrate and be focused to accomplish it effectively and efficiently. You need concentration to resist all the distractions that can ruin your journey to achieving that goal.
Focus is an important ingredient to one’s success. It gives a person pure time and energy to do his tasks until he attain his specific objectives. But just like the other great qualities of a successful person (i.e., patience, hard work, positivity, persistence, etc.,), focus is difficult to achieve. But once you overcome this difficulty, the result could be rewarding.
Whatever you want to achieve, here are some tips to achieving focus and avoid distractions.
Refocus
Most people want to focus, but few people want to refocus. This is because there are only few people who persist. Everyone should understand that concentration is not only a one time feat, but it is a continuing act that one must keep on doing and restoring. Thus, if you lose focus, don’t be immediately disappointed and be discouraged. Instead, be positive and try to refocus again. The faster you restore your concentration, the better. That is why be prepared and know in advance how you can refocus quickly whenever you lose focus. So make a plan. And in that plan, make sure to include steps on how you can get back to your feet whenever you lose your stand.
Distract your distractions
Focus is something you must protect. Distractions are the enemies of focus. Hence, you must declare war and battle them all. For that, you must know your enemies. If you want to focus on your business goals, then you must overcome all your business distractions. You need to do research, like listening to people who have similar goals like yours. You can ask them what their common distractions are and how they manage to overcome them. Always talk and learn from people who have successfully distracted their distractions. You can also have a mentor or a coach to be your ally in defeating your distractions. Further, remember that not all distractions come in negative forms. In fact, the usual distractions that can destroy your focus are those distractions that come in positive and enticing forms. So be wise and don’t be fooled.
Make focusing a habit
Focus is not only a value, a character or an attitude, but it is also a habit. It’s not only a principle that must be always in your mind; it’s not only a value that must always be in your heart; it’s not only an attitude that you must always choose; but it is also a habit that you must always keep on doing. Thus, it needs a lot of practice to make focus perfect. Have you seen people who are martial arts experts? Focus is one of the most important elements to their success… and they always go to training to perfect their focus.
Therefore, don’t just say focus, focus, and focus. But be calm, be silent, and maintain your focus. And if ever you lose focus, don’t be discouraged but quickly refocus. Train yourself and be equipped with all the weapons you need to overcome your distractions. Practice focus until you’ve perfected and made it a habit.
