How to maintain a good business name and reputation? Having a catchy business name requires a lot of imagining and brainstorming. But having a good and reputable company name goes beyond brain and imagination. It must be a product not only of your heart or a series of mere actions, but it should also be a product of your life as a business person or entrepreneur. Moreover, a trade name is not only to be made appealing in front of your customers. It must also looks and sounds great to everyone who hears, read and knows it. When we say everyone, that includes your employees, suppliers, investors, creditors, friends and especially, God, who knows you and your business best. So how do we create a good name and reputation for our business? The following verse from the Bible will enlighten you on that topic and in many other things:

“My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years , and bring you prosperity. Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. “- Proverbs 3:1-4 (NIV)

These words from the Holy Scriptures are to be reflected and understood. But how can we fathom those heavenly words? I tell you how. When you read it and memorize it, you will know it. When you choose it and decide to apply it, you will have wisdom. However, knowledge and wisdom are not enough. You’ve got to practice it and make it part of your life to understand it. You must plant it within yourself and let it bear fruits and results that will become its living manifestation. Let’s try to understand it now.

Do not forget the teachings of God

God’s teachings are prominent and almost found anywhere. We’ve been hearing and reading them since our childhood. Thus, many people don’t expect to forget those things. Honesty, kindness, charity, peacefulness, self-control, gentleness, compassion, patience, we know that these things, if practiced will give us good life, and even good business. But God told us not to forget His teachings, and when He said those words, He knows that people have the tendency to forget them. Yes, people are forgetting them. Just like music played and heard a hundred times before, we still forget them. We forget them, especially when our brain and mind are concentrating on their counterparts (i.e., deceit, greed, hatred, etc.,). You know what is that important teaching that we are forgetting? It’s simply…”do not forget the teachings of God”. Do not forget to serve your customers with a quality and honest business, to have compassion with your employees, to be gentle with the environment, and to be kind to the public.

Follow them heartily

Return is one thing that is very important in business. When we invest money, we expect a favorable return on those investments. However, we should not just expect and target for pure monetary returns or profits. There are intangible returns we can get that are highly favorable to our business. These include trust and confidence from our customers, loyalty from our employees, good relationship with the government and support from the public. We don’t need to worry about the sacrifices we need for the sake of others. We don’t need to worry if we temporarily lose money. This is because when we make other people happy by helping them heartily, all the profits (financially and spiritually) add up to our business. Moreover, these are the lasting profits that gives our business not only profitability, but also stability.

Have love and faithfulness

If there is one trade name that is so great, it would be “love”. And if there is one name that is even greater than love, it is “loving”. This is the loving of spiritual things, which include joy, peace, kindness, faithfulness and gentleness. It must be the opposite of the “love of money” which leads to evil. We need to love truly to have a good name. We need to do and show loving to maintain a good reputation. And in this world full of temptation, it requires an enduring faith and patience to have love and share that love to others. Remember that love is the greatest virtue that ties all the good virtues in you. That’s how love great is, and we should stand by it and live on it.

Having a good name and reputation

God never lies. And the verse above is clear and simple. Seek first the heavenly things, and the material things you need will surely follow. It should not be the other way around. It must be Heaven first, then the Earth. If you wish to preserve a good business name and maintain its good reputation, you must learn how to write your business name in heaven, and not in the ground. We must write it in the places where there is light that brightens up people, and not in places where there is darkness that deceives people.
