How to Open a Bank Account in Metrobank Philippines

July 12, 2011 Vic

“You’re in good hands with… if you are fun of famous brands, slogans or taglines in the Philippines, you surely knew that the final piece for this slogan is… Metrobank”. Metrobank promises to live up to that saying, and that is probably the reason why they are dedicated to product quality, service excellence, solid work ethics, and good governance. My personal banking experience on different banks here in my province tells that only Metrobank security guards greet me a “good morning or afternoon” when I enter their premises and deliver their warm “thank you” when I leave their doorsteps. Well, it may be a little thing for a common client like me, but it does have a great effect especially when maintaining great business relationships – that is what we called a good customer service.

Founded in September 5, 1962, Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. (Metrobank) has since become the premier universal bank and among the foremost financial institutions in the Philippines.  It offers a full range of banking and other financial products and services, including corporate, commercial and consumer banking, as well as credit card, remittances, leasing, investment banking and trust banking.  Metrobank currently spans a consolidated network of over 1,200 ATMs nationwide; over 730 domestic branches; and 42 foreign branches, subsidiaries, and representative offices. Metrobank has already been a recipient of several prestigious awards, establishing its excellence and leadership in the banking industry. Among these several awards for 2010 are Bank of the Year in the Philippines (The Banker), Best Domestic Bank in the Philippines (Asiamoney), Best Bank in the Philippines (Euromoney Awards for Excellence) and Gold Trusted Brand Award -Bank (Reader’s Digest). Now, if you are planning to save your money and open a bank account in Metrobank, the following information shall guide you.

Tips and Steps in opening a Metrobank account

1. Decide on what type of deposit account you want to open in Metrobank. Refer to the list and information above.

1. Choose the Metrobank branch of your choice. You can check the list of MBTC branches at their branch locator page.

2. Visit the Metrobank branch that you’ve chosen and bring the following requirements in opening a bank account.

  • Two (2) valid ID’s with your name, picture and signature.

Valid IDs: Passport, Driver’s license, PRC ID, NBI clearance, Police clearance, Postal ID, Voter’s ID, Barangay certification, GSIS e-Card, SSS ID, Philhealth card, Senior Citizen Card, OWWA ID, OFW ID, Seaman’s Book, Alien Certification of Registration/Immigrant Certificate of Registration, and other  Government office IDs

  • Two (2) Photocopies of your valid IDs
  • One (1) copy 1 x 1 recent ID picture
  • Billing Statement and 2 photocopies in order to verify your address. Billing statement can be Electric bill, Telephone bill, Water bill, Credit Card bill, Cellphone bill etc.

Additional requirements might be needed to submit for business and corporate accounts, such as certificate of business registration, articles of incorporation and corporate board resolution. For more details, please visit the nearest MBTC branch that you have chosen.

3. Proceed to the New Account Desk; tell the bank officer your intent to open a bank account.  Then fill-up the forms that will be given to you. It is also wise to always bring a ball pen to avoid borrowing one or waiting in line for the pen provided by the bank at the writing area.

4. Give the initial deposit for your account. It should be equal or more than the minimum initial deposit amount. Make sure that your balance will not fall below the minimum balance requirements. To learn about Metrobank interest rates, minimum initial deposit and maintaining balance, please visit their “rate page“.

5. Claim your Metrobank ATM card or passbook which normally available for pick-up after 3-5 banking days.

Notes:
-Usually, banks require a depositor to have 3-6 months of maintaining a savings account before they can be eligible to open a checking account. This is usually a quality control practice by common banks to minimize the incidence of depositors issuing bouncing checks.
