Will the world ends on May 21, 2011? Is there a truth behind this end of the world prediction? The May 21 doomsday or the day of rapture has been a hot issue on TV news, radio talks, blog posts and even on the topics discussed on top social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. But before you panic, attempt to sell all your properties, and escape your debts, let’s have some wisdom and knowledge to enlighten us with this anticipation.
The end of the world?
Actually, the claim of Harold Egbert Camping, a US evangelical Christian broadcaster, tells that May 21, 2011 is the Judgment day, and that on October 21, 2011, the end of the world will occur. Camping uses Bible-based numerology to predict dates for the end of the world. He predicts that Rapture will be on May 21, 2011 and that God will completely destroy the Earth and the universe five months later on October 21.
The bases of prediction?
Camping based his prediction on the seven days referred to in Genesis 7:4. He also claims that based on 2 Peter 3:8, God reminds us that one day is equal to 1,000 years. Therefore, with his understanding that the seven days referred to in Genesis 7:4 can be understood as 7,000 years, he learn that when God told Noah there were seven days to escape worldwide destruction, He was also telling the world there would be exactly 7,000 years to escape the wrath of God that would come when He destroys the world on Judgment Day. Seven thousand years after 4990 B.C. (the year of the Flood) is the year 2011 A.D. According to Camping, the flood waters began on the 17th day of the 2nd month, in the year 4990 B.C. Thus, he claims that May 21, 2011 is the judgment day since it is also the 17th day of the 2nd month of the Biblical calendar of our day. Visit Camping’s “Family Radio” Website’s publication.
Is there truth on that prediction??
Camping neither know the Day of Judgment nor the day of the end of the world.
Only the Father knows the Day of Judgment.
“The day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father” – Mark 13:32.
A true prophet never gives false prophecies. Camping previously proclaimed that Christ’s will return on September 6, 1994, and it did not happen.
“You may say to yourselves, “How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD?” If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously, so do not be alarmed.” -Deuteronomy 18:21-22
Conclusion:
As the Holy Scriptures say, only our Almighty Father knows when the Day of the Judgment comes. God is a righteous God, and He has a purpose why people shall not know the exact date of Judgment Day. The reason is for us to keep alert and be prepared at all times, whether the end of days will start tomorrow or the other day. He also wants us to test every false prophets and preachers by reading and understanding the Words of God in the Holy Bible. The Word of God is the sword we need to break and cut the deceitful words of evil. Our pure faith, righteousness and love are what we need to wipe out our fear of the end of the world. To prepare for the end of the world… is to start your new world now – be spiritual. Let us depart from the love of money and the love of other things that will not remain forever. Let’s become spiritually alive now. The truth is that… eternal life is not only achieved after death or after the end of the world. With working faith through love, we can start to live an eternal life right now. Don’t be afraid of the end of the world.
