Learn How to Target the Right Market

April 13, 2012 Vic 2 Comments

Guns are used with bullets. That is why shooters need to aim the right targets so that they wouldn’t waste ammunition. Moreover, they should also avoid hitting the wrong boards to prevent unwanted casualties. Likewise, farmers use good seeds to yield good harvest. They should know how to plant them in the right soil to avoid wasted seeds and result to a bad harvest.

It’s also the same when you are aspiring to achieve success in business. It’s the same when you are doing your marketing and aiming higher sales and profits.

While lurking in the social media, such as Facebook, Twitter and Google+, I have observed a lot of marketers and their ways to market their business and brand. On Facebook alone, Internet marketers are almost everywhere around this social networking site, promoting their products and services to the Facebook community.

But a number of marketers are doing it in the wrong way. They are just there spreading their stuff without even targeting the right people. This is a waste of time. They are just making a mess on the social media.

Perhaps they don’t consider themselves as spammers since they are not using software, but are actually and personally interacting with people. But the problem is… they are wrongly interacting with the people.

I’m a member of different groups and communities on Facebook. I hate it when marketers share their stuff to a specific group without even analyzing if it fits to the need of the people whom they are sharing with. And to make it worst, they share their links, photos, or videos without even having a proper introduction.

Are they just too lazy or just too busy to introduce what they are sharing or promoting? Marketing a business should be pointed to the right customers. That is why it needs a lot of care.

When you always share something on Facebook or to a specific group, and you don’t even get any single like, then it’s already an indication that you are promoting something on a wrong place.

It can be that members in that group don’t like what you share or they don’t like you. To fix it, you should either share something that is useful or make yourself likable. To make yourself acceptable to the community, you should invest more time and effort to help the community rather than spending time on promoting your own stuff.

Promoting your products to the wrong market doesn’t only waste your time, but it can also do a lot of harm to your business. Just like when shooting the wrong target, it doesn’t only waste your bullet, but it can also cause casualties.

In that kind of marketing, one of the major casualties that you may incur is the destruction of your reputation. If you will be known by the public as a business who just promote selfishly, without giving value to people, then your reputation is in danger.

Therefore, it’s very important that every business owner and marketer learn how to target the right market when promoting their brand. Remember that marketing is an expense. It consumes your time, money, and other resources. Thus, don’t waste them. Learn how to aim the perfect target. Make sure to hit the bullseye.

As the article discussed, know your market first. Get closer to them. Mingle and create relationship with them. That way, you will know them better and understand their real needs. That way, you will also know what kind of products they are really needing. Don’t just promote and promote. It’s not about how many times you offer a product, but it is how and where you offer a product.
