Summer is here and it is vacation time for many people. School days are over; beach parties; and reunion for families and barkada. Of course, any Pinoy season would not be complete without FOOD. Making getaways more pleasurable, summer brings out some of the all-time favorite merienda in the Philippines.
If you want additional income while enjoying the summer heat, why not make favorite summer foods your business this season? Here are some of the perfect ideas for your menu:
- Halo-halo
This is probably the most favorite summer treat in the Philippines. Halo-halo is an original Filipino food that has gone global. This is a mixture of shaved ice, milk, beans, gulaman, pinipig, and other sweet ingredients. Some special halo-halo even have ice cream to the delight of many. You can find this served not just in restaurants but even in along-the-road stores all over the country.
- Mais con Yelo
This is another thirst quenchers for Filipinos during the hot season. This dessert is like halo-halo in a way except that it is all corn kernels. Of course, it has milk, sugar, and shaved ice too. Actually, you do not have to wait for summer to serve mais con yelo as many crave for this treat all year round.
- Ice candy
Ice candy is not just popular during the summer season. This is frequent in the menu of most school canteens and stores especially since it is affordably sold. Ice candies are sort of frozen juice or shakes. They come in different flavors. Among the favorites are mango, buko, and avocado. You can experiment with your ice candies to attract more customers. For instance, you can include Nips, sago, or sprinkles in the ice candy.
- Mango float
Who can resist the creamy sweetness of this all-time favorite dessert? This is a bit more costly compared to the summer treats that are usually served in street corners, but no doubt this is loved by many Filipinos. Mango float is like a frozen cake that is made of Graham biscuits with mango fillings in between, and it is topped and flooded with condensed milk. You will not have a hard time looking for customers, so this is a winner business.
- Bananacue
Do you have a small budget for your summer business? Then, why not try selling bananacue? Unlike the desserts in the previous numbers, this is not a thirst quencher since this is best served hot. However, you are sure that this will be a hit in the block especially during merienda hours. Bananacue is definitely one of the favorite Pinoy snacks especially in the countryside.
- Milk shake
Another thirst-quencher business that will surely get you enough income is selling milk shakes. You have a lot of choices for the flavors. Among the favorites in the crowd are mango, buko pandan, avocado, chocolate, and so on. Along with the shakes, you can sell pancakes, siomai, sandwich, and any other foods that you know your neighbors or friends will love eating while savoring their shake.
7. Fish balls
Everybody is on the street this summer. Therefore, it is the perfect time to go out there and sell street foods. You have a lot of choices like kwek-kwek, taho, squid balls, and siomai. If you want to sell something which is easy to prepare and can be sold cheaply enough for people to surround your stall, then fish ball is your choice. At 1 peso, your fish balls will be surely sold-out before the sun sets.
- Guinomis
This dessert is like halo-halo except that it has lesser ingredients. Therefore, if you feel pressured with selling halo-halo because more ingredients are needed, guinomis is a better choice. The preparation is the same with the other dessert. Only that the ingredients only include sago, gulaman, toasted pinipig, coconut milk, and sugar syrup.
- Sago’t Gulaman
This is one of the popular original Pinoy thirst-quenchers in the streets. This is a refreshing drink that is very affordable, so it is easy to sell. Sago’t gulaman is easy to prepare. You only need a few ingredients like sliced gulaman, sago, and caramelized sugar syrup or arnibal. Surely, this will be a bestseller in this summer heat.
10. French fries
From the name alone, this food is clearly not Filipino in origin. However, you cannot deny the fact that everybody just loves fries (except those who hate getting fat). For this reason, this is a good choice for your summer business. There are raw fries that you can buy from the malls and they can be cooked instantly. Just buy a variety of flavoring powders like cheese, barbecue, or pizza for variation.
Whether you are a student or not, summer is the best time of the year for you to setup a simple food business. There are a lot of tourists and homecomers in this season, so you should take advantage of it. Just use your creativity and resourcefulness, and with hard work, for sure you will earn a lot.
