Whatever our job is, whatever we do in life, we all experience things that are so annoying. Customers have their own list of things they hate. Employees also have their own list of the things that cause them stresses. Well, I’ve been a customer and an employee, and I know what it feels. LOLs. Now, bloggers and website developers, also have their own list of nightmares. As a webmaster myself, I also experience those disgusting things. However, not all of them are really irritating since they can be tolerated and managed. I asked some friends of mine in the blogging world, and they have given me an idea what’s the most annoying among the things in the list below. The following are top 10 things that bloggers and webmasters hate.
#10. SOPA and PIPA
Remember the Internet Blackout Day on January 18 this year, where top websites, such as Wikipedia, WordPress and Reddit have turned their sites dark to support the Anti-SOPA and Anti-PIPA campaign? Google and Facebook have also showed their protest with the proposed bill on their own. And when you demonstrate your support to SOPA, like what GoDaddy has done, you will be in trouble because millions of bloggers and webmasters in the world will boycott you. We, blogger, are against copyright infringement, but we also hate those things that cause abuse of authority and those abusive people who ruin the freedom of the Internet. This is why SOPA and PIPA are included in our hate list.
#9. Google’s sandbox
This goes with the SEO people and every webmasters who want to bring their pages on the top of Google’s SERP (Search Engine Results Page). With Google’s several updates, it’s now harder to rank in their prestigious search engine. Worst, if you don’t know SEO (search engine optimization), you will be wondering where all your pages have gone. Eventually you will find out they are in the sand box – where Google places penalized or low quality pages. Though the sandbox effect is not formally introduced by Google, this effect gives webmasters and bloggers some kind of frustration.
#8. .01 Cost per click on ad earnings
Advertising income are the bread and butter of bloggers and webmaster. But if you experience very low earnings, such as .01 CPC on Adsense and other advertising networks, you’ll gonna ask why the others are enjoying as high as $10 earning per click. But though this is frustrating, this can be managed by doing some worthy research and experiments.
#7. Spammers
Are you receiving spam comments on your blog? Well, you’re not alone. Comments which are irrelevant and containing bad links, especially when they are already growing in numbers, can really bring your head into its boiling point. Spamming are done automatically using software and scripts. That is why it is easy for them to inject spam on your blog. If you hate flies which always come back no matter how you drive those insects away, then you will experience the same feeling for those spammers that are victimizing your site.
#6. Plagiarists
We don’t like SOPA and PIPA because they are threatening the freedom of the Internet. But it doesn’t mean everyone should already have the right to infringe the copyrights of any person in the online and in the offline world. We hate SOPA and PIPA because they can cause abuse of power and authority. We also hate abusive people who steal other hard-earned stuff, such as articles and blog posts. It’s really disgusting when you diligently write a unique and quality article, then after a few weeks, somebody has copied and published your post without even giving you a credit. Well, we all know that it’s really bad, unethical and illegal even without the existence of SOPA and PIPA. So please don’t steal other’s stuff.
#5. Hackers
There are different kinds of hackers. There are people who hack codes, also known as coders, who use their skills for the benefit of many people. There are also hackers who are using their skills to terrorize others’ tiny and innocent websites. Hackers are like robbers. If you hack or rob your own code, then it’s good. But if you hack and rob others’ code and resources, especially those that belongs to the poor, they are really disgusting – that isn’t a Robin Hood act. When your website or blog is terrorized by hackers, and you have not made a backup of your files, then it can be your worst nightmare.
#4. Webhost server downtime
Services are supposedly provided with quality. Well, you pay for them. You expect that your web hosting company will be your reliable partner in blogging and in website developing. You also hope that they can deliver their promise of a 99.9% uptime guarantee. But when downtime happens frequently, everything can be a disaster. You lose traffic, profit and even reputation. It even gets worst when the web hosting company’s support team is not responding on the right manner and on the right time.
#3. Slow Internet connection
Webmasters and bloggers depend on the Internet to publish their contents online. They also need the connection to promote their websites and blogs anywhere on the web, which include social media places like Facebook, Twitter and the blogosphere. But when your Internet connection is too slow, your activity can also become slow. This is one of the things that cause me too much stress personally. I know that most bloggers and webmasters also hate that awkward moment when you are in a hurry, but your Internet connection is moving like a snail.
#2. Computer hang
Speaking of awkward moments, slow Internet connection really sucks. However, your fast Internet connection is useless if your computer (PC, laptop or tablet) processor always hangs. This makes people burst in annoyance, not only bloggers and webmasters, but everyone who depends on computers. Just a caution, when you experience this awkward moment, try to relax and don’t throw your PC or laptops on the floor – they also have cyber feelings. LOLs.
#1. Brownout / power shortage
And the most annoying of them all… drums please! Even if your Internet connection is fast and your computer has the fastest processor in the world, if there is no power or electricity, everything can become a calamity. Most of the bloggers and webmasters I have asked chose this as their most annoying thing in the list. I couldn’t agree more since this occurrence makes, not only Internet workers, but everyone mad. If you live in the Philippines, brownout is not unusual.
How about you? What’s your most annoying thing as a blogger or webmaster?

i agree with all of the listed 9 except for no. 2,- as long as you do a regular system maintenance on your pc – desktop or laptop, it will be your good blogging partner, regular anti-virus updates, system cleaning, etc.
Vic says
🙂 Actually, when money pours, all of them are manageable. Except maybe #1 for Filipinos. Ah, perhaps we can buy generators. 🙂
Faust says
Sum them all up equals chaos, on #8 you can try text ads like Linkworth or TLA they charge on monthly basis with 50/50 share.
Vic says
Thanks Faust. That is why, I don’t put all my ad spaces on one basket. Direct ads are good.

Speaking of blogs, the best way to avoid or get out of Item #9 (Google Sandbox) is to have original quality contents. Google needs good contents so they can show useful results to search engine users. If your blog do not have them, it’s understandable that you would think that it’s in Google sandbox but actually there’s no such thing.

Sir Vic the worst is when somebody copied your article didn’t give you credit and one time you are checking your google ranking and the plagiarized copy of yours ranks much higher than your original. Happened to me.

Visitors to your website/blog asking for something for free! It drives me crazy!
Aj Banda says
hahaha.. Agree with number 1, even if you have a very strong internet connection and a very sophisticated computer system, things won’t work without electricity!
