Are you a blogger or someone who’s always visiting and reading blogs to get some interesting information? Have you ever wondered what the top blogs in the Philippines are? For Filipino bloggers, they might want to know how their blogs rank among the list of the best in the country. As a blogger myself, I am enthusiast to check what’s my own blogs are doing in the rankings. That is why I’ve conducted a manual research of some of the popular blogs I’ve encountered in the Philippine blogosphere.
There are several sites that rank websites and blogs, such as Alexa, Compete, Quantcast, and Google through its Pagerank. However, I found Alexa ranking as more reliable than the rest. Compete and Quantcast are mainly calculated based on US traffic and most of the blogs owned by Filipinos are not quantified using their systems. Google PR has also been considered by many bloggers and website owners are not that reliable.
There are also other important factors that must be considered to recognize a blog as one of the best, such as the quality of the blog posts, the activeness of users’ engagement, the number of loyal followers and subscribers, and the positive feedback or testimonials from its users. However, determining these factors would require a long and deep examination of the nominated blogs. But this kind of ranking is already in our plan for this year. For the purpose of giving you the idea of the top blogs in the Philippines, we have used Alexa ranking system.
Alexa is the leading provider of free, global web metrics. It gathers information from a variety of sources to provide key statistics about each site on the web. For example, Traffic Rank, the number of Pageviews, and site Average Load Times, which are derived from their community of Toolbar users. The Alexa Toolbar is a program that Internet users install into their browsers. It communicates with Alexa servers to retrieve information which are useful in determining a website’s ranking.
The following list is gathered manually. It means that the information below are subject to changes from time to time. Hence, if you think we have missed a certain blog that should be included in the list, feel free to suggest it to us by making a comment below. This list is as of February 2012, we will be publishing a second batch of this list after 6 months, which may also include other determining factors aside from Alexa ranking. Thus, if your blog did not make it to the list this time, I believe that you will make it the nest ranking. So here we go, here are our top 40 blogs in the Philippines for 2012 based on Alexa ranking.

Based on the ranking above, it shows that the most popular blogs in the global rankings are in the categories of design (see NaldzGraphics.net and DesignrsHub.com), technology (see Yugatech.com), news (see Istorya.net and Starmometer.com), and SEO (see SEO-Hacker.com and KaisertheSage.com). However, when it comes to blogs that are visited most by Filipinos, the design and SEO blogs are not that popular. Perhaps, most of their traffic and audience are coming from US or the other parts of the world aside from the Philippines. Business and finance blogs are also doing fine in the Philippine ranking (see PinoyMoneyTalk.com, Fitzvillafuerte.com and our blog).

Yes, frequency of blog posting does increase the Alexa Rank, as well as the actual traffic. I wish you all the best.
Using the Alexa rank alone does not really tell the popularity of a blog. Not everyone has the Alexa toolbar and the rankings can be manipulated. I know a blog on the list tweaking its Alexa ranking through traffic exchange sites.
I think that Alexa can be utilized but it should not be the only one to be used.
For me, it is the traffic that is more important. I know a site with better traffic but higher Alexa rank compared to another with lower Alexa but much lesser traffic.
But then again to determine the traffic, you need to ask the bloggers of their google analytics report which I doubt they will.

Oh I’m there! I could have had ranked better on this list. My Alexa rank went up to like 80K overall and 600+ in PH. But I focused on US topics since November – my PH Alexa went to a thousand and my overall ranking was affected.
Although, I am getting the same amount of traffic, just more US which means way more moohlah… lol…
