Finding a job in the Philippines may not be a walk in the park but there are practical ways and job options that many people do not seem to consider for the reason that they are not familiar with these opportunities or they do not even know that they exist.

Such reality is one of the causes why people fail to make the most out of the resources that are readily available to them. The boom of the world wide web in the later 90s has created a wider, more multidimensional work spaces for employers and businessmen to start a whole new world of commercial ventures.

Similar opportunities also became available for the new generation of workers regardless of age, gender, educational background and location in the world. I am talking about work prospects that anyone, young and old, married or single, can find online – and the best part is, the privilege of working from the comforts of their homes.

To keep you updated on the latest and most current job posts for an ideal home-based career, we have summarized the top seven most sought-after online jobs for Filipinos.

1. Data Entry Jobs
Estimated Salary: Php 8,000 – Php 14,000

If you have the aptness to accuracy and high-speed typing skills, you are perfect for any data entry post, professionally known as database administrator. This particular position requires one to be a keen observer and should have high attention to details.

As a database administrator, you have the responsibilities of: managing, reviewing, updating and inputting massive amount of data into the computer system.

One necessary skill needed for this job aside from what were already mentioned is that, you must be familiar with computer programs for Microsoft Office and other related applications.

2. Transcription Jobs
Estimated Monthly Salary: Php 13,000 – Php 15,000

Transcription jobs vary depending on the specific projects that one is working on. For instance, as a medical transcriptionist, you need to have a background knowledge in Medicine since the job requires you to transcribe doctors’ notes.

A production transcriptionist on the other hand transcribes video files for clients, which may also be under the category of tasks assigned to general transcriptionists: covering audio or video files of interviews, conversations, meetings, etc. Usually, general transcription jobs accept beginners.

3. Jobs as a translator
Estimated Monthly Salary: Php 40,000 – Php 80,000

Translators belong to the top paid online workers in the online job industry. This is because, one has to be fluent in speaking and writing in a foreign language. For instance, multilingual speakers of French, Spanish, Chinese or other major languages can be qualified for this job.

The challenge here is how you would translate the meaning and expressions from its original text to the target language, clearly conveying the exact concept in a near-native style.

4. Writing Gigs
Estimated Monthly Salary: Php 12,000 – Php 30,000

This is one of the most common jobs online especially for students and even hired workers who are trying to find extra income. If you are good at writing and have an effective time management routine, then you should apply for writing gigs that can be found in any online internet job hunting site.

Writing assignments require you to have the skills in researching since most of the time, you will be required to write topics from a wide variety of niche.

5. Content Editor/ Proofreader
Estimated Monthly Salary: Php 25,000 – Php 30,000

Some experienced writers with a perfect command of the English language usually land in content editing jobs that require them to proofread and edit a document or even academic papers.

The most important knowledge that one should have is the expertise in grammar and vocabulary. Other than that, different papers under various subjects demand proper use of words, diction and jargon. One should also be familiar with the difference between a technical and a creative paper.

6. ESL Teacher/ Online English Tutor
Estimated Monthly Salary: Php 30,000 – Php 60,000

If you are confident with your spoken and written skills in the English language, you are almost qualified for a teaching job online. Another thing that you should have is the right attitude to teach beginner to advanced foreign students. Patience and knowledge always go hand in hand when it comes to ESL teaching, and if you think you have both, then this one is for you.

Although a higher educational background is an advantage, one qualification that you should possess in order to secure a job in the ESL industry is just to have a working knowledge in the language.

Most of the language learners come from developed countries like Japan, Brazil, China and South Korea. Depending on the company, there is usually a focus on a specific country where students come from.

7. Programming/ Web Designer Jobs
Estimated Monthly Salary: Php 35,000 – Php 65,000

Perhaps the most complex online job that requires strict knowledge in coding and website layout are these two. You have to have a proper education or even experience and familiarity with computer programming. A working knowledge in graphic design, site maintenance and working around web content and website interface are required if you pursue a career in web design.

Aside from these skills, you have to be creative and innovative so that you can compete with old and new designers. However, having a personal style is good but most of the time, clients demand that designers should follow their desired style.

Again, having the right skills for any job that you are applying for may not be enough. You have to have the right attitude and an effective time management routine in order for you to handle a demanding job. Remember that most employers are non-Filipino, so learning about their work culture and how they handle projects can be really helpful.

If you want to pursue an online-slash-home-based job in the future, you have to make sure that you are willing to invest time and effort in order to learn the basics of the trade. Good luck!
