What is a Solopreneur?

February 11, 2011 Vic 1 Comment

What is the meaning and definition of a solopreneur? Solopreneur comes from the words “solo” and “entrepreneur”. From this combination of words it’s obvious that this term represents an entrepreneur who works alone (solo). Solopreneurs may hire contractors and outsource services to operate their business efficiently. But they still take the full responsibility of running their business. A solopreneur’s boss is himself. That is why his time and schedule are flexible. With this flexibility, he is prone to work overtime, feeling that opportunities are endless and there is no time that must be wasted. Solopreneur usually do the business management, administration, marketing, customer service and product or service delivery by themselves.

A solopreneur may also be called a solo entrepreneur (Solo-E), independent professional, free agent, freelancer, self-employed, or a non-employer business owner. Although they choose to go into business by themselves, they are not isolated. They usually connect and build alliances with other solopeneurs for collaboration according to their needs.

Solopreneurs are passionate people who enjoy freedom of work and exploration of unlimited possibilities. They earn happiness and enthusiasm of what they do. They also acquire confidence, strong belief and optimism on their own success. They prefer to utilize their talents and skills to the maximum level. They take the risk to achieve their full potential, rather than stick to the high-paying yet boring job.

Solopreneurs are typically knowledgeable and skillful. That is why they can survive to manage their business and entrepreneurship alone. They are usually professionals or previous corporate employees who realize the bigger opportunities that are found in self-employment. They also know how to utilize technology, such as the Internet, websites, blogs, social media and online marketing. Thus, they are competitive in their own capacity.

Solopreneurs believe on themselves. They enjoy freedom, uniqueness, full responsibility and the realization of their own mission, vision and principles in business and in life as a whole. But though they are comfortable soloists, they can also evolve and transform into an entrepreneur who runs a corporate and expanded business, with a desire to provide jobs to unemployed persons, give income opportunities to more investors and share success to a lot of people.

Solopreneurship can be a great way to optimize your full potential in terms of skills, talents, financial capability and personality. So are you a solopreneur?
